About Diana Greenlee

Diana Greenlee, founder of Tales of Irish Travel, County Down, Northern Ireland

Hello, I am Diana.

I live in County Down, and I write Tales of Irish Travel.

I spent years living in other countries. I loved it, and I would do it again. What I did not expect was how much I would miss home, or that what I would regret most was not how long I had been away, but how little of this island I had actually seen before I left.

I came home during Covid. I have been fixing that ever since.

Why there is so much history on a travel blog

The thing years of travelling taught me is that a story attached to a place makes it personal. Without one, a view is just a view. You look at it, you take the photo, you move on, and you have forgotten it by the time you are back at the car.

So that is what I am trying to do here. Not just show you the place, but tell you the history and the story behind it. Sometimes that is the boat that left during the famine. Sometimes it is the man who comes and sits in the same spot every day to feed the birds. Both of those are the reason a place is worth stopping at.

What you will find here

Northern Ireland and Donegal, mostly, because that is where I am and these are the places I can go and check for myself.

I try to be useful before I am enthusiastic. What a thing actually costs, when it is busy, where to park, what is free and what is not. If something is not worth the money, I would rather say so than sell it to you.

I have two daughters, and a good part of why I do this is for them. I want them to grow up with Irish history and Irish hospitality as things they have stood in front of, rather than things they were taught.

You can reach me at hello@talesofirishtravel.com. I read everything, and if you are planning a trip and stuck on something, ask. I would rather answer than have you guess.
